Bayer’s Path to Digital and Integrated Cost Estimating with Cleopatra
Bayer Case Study

Introduction to Bayer’s Search For a Cost Estimating Solution
As one of the world’s largest players in the fields of pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and agriculture, Bayer is always looking for innovation. The Cost Estimating Team of Bayer contributes to this goal by maximizing value via cost engineering practices.
Bayer’s outdated, manual estimating systems no longer met their project requirements. A reliable and future-proof solution was a must to meet the high standards of the Estimating Team.
Key Challenges Bayer Faced
- Aligning own cost estimates with cost estimates from external planning partners
- Fulfilling internal reporting standards without loads of manual work
- Converting all cost related data, such as existing estimates, with Breakdown Structures
- Analyzing and comparing individual projects or project phases
- Importing and exporting data
To overcome these challenges, Bayer decided to search for a new tool. After investigating potential solutions during a screening and selection process for 1,5 years, Bayer chose Cleopatra Enterprise as their cost estimating software.
Results of Implementing Cleopatra Enterprise
Using Cleopatra Enterprise, Bayer has achieved significant improvement in their estimating process. A digital and integrated cost estimation process has improved cost estimates’ accuracy, time savings, and better business decision-making through advanced reporting and analysis.
After the implementation, Cleopatra has become Bayer’s sole cost estimation software system, helping the Estimating Department to:
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using internal Breakdown Structures
- Import cost estimates created by external planning partners without any manual work
- Analyze internal cost estimates with cost estimates performed by external planning partners using multiple Breakdown Structures
- Analyze individual projects and compare multiple projects and project phases
- Enhance internal reporting, which led to improved internal visibility and increased importance of the Estimating Department
