Dredging company Van Oord has secured a land reclamation project off the coast of Dubai. The Dutch firm will construct an artificial island covering approximately 13 hectares and featuring 6 kilometers of beach.

The island will be located just off the coast of Jumeirah. “The design is inspired by the natural beauty of a pristine island,” Van Oord wrote on Tuesday. According to the company, the project emphasizes “preserving the existing beach environment with open green areas and coastal landscape.”
The project, called Naïa Island Dubai, is being financed by Dubai-based investor Shamal Holding. For the project, Van Oord will dredge more than 28 million cubic meters of sand and place around 4.3 million tons of rock.
The island is set to become an ultra-luxurious destination, featuring an upscale Cheval Blanc resort, exclusive beach villas, a marina, and wellness facilities.
This isn’t the first time Van Oord has taken on a major project in Dubai. The company was previously involved in the construction of Palm Jumeirah, The World, and several other artificial islands off the coast of the oil-rich state.
